greet us.
Visit some of the natural phenomenas of Vatnajökull National Park, including the impressive and rugged canyon of
Jökulsárgljúfur, the horse-shaped gorge of Ásbyrgi and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, the deafening
Dettifoss.
To crown off the day, we will also enjoy a whale watching cruise on an old boat from Husavik, “the whale watching
capital of Europe”.

Today we will be joining an exclusive gourmet tour to discover the very best of local North Icelandic
production. During the day we will visit various destinations throughout the Akureyri area. Meet enthusiastic local
food producers, farmers, fishermen and brewers where they will share their gastronomic knowledge with us and we can
taste their products.
Sample as you go mouth-watering local treats made especially for us and additionally, depending on season, we will

delicates from the Akureyri area.
Day 5: Thursday: Akureyri - Lake Myvatn - Reykjavik
Enjoy an amazing journey through an area of extreme contrasts, saga, flora,
bird life and geology. The Lake Myvatn area is considered one of the most beautiful and at the same time the
most catastrophic place in Iceland.
We begin our day by stopping at Goðafoss waterfall which plays an important role in Icelandic history, particularly
with the introduction of Christianity. Then on to the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar before continuing to the
mystic Dimmuborgir (Dark Cities)m full of lava-pillars and formations. We come to the warm underground river in
Grjótagjá rift and head to the geothermal area of Hverir with boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur
pits.
The Krafla volcano area is next and we pass the power station bearing the same name that relies on geothermal steam
energy. We then come to the explosion crater Víti that was formed in 1724 in the Mývatnseldar eruption and from
there we will enjoy the view over Leirhnjúkur volcano.

Southern Iceland Itinerary - August 31 - September 5
Day 1 - Wednesday: Depart
Home
Your vacation begins when you board your overnight flight to
Reykjavik Iceland. Plan your flight to arrive in the morning so you will have free time to relax or explore
Reykjavik.
Day 2 - Thursday: Reykjavik, Iceland
After an overnight flight your plane lands in Iceland. You will be
transferred to our hotel, shuttles will be running throughout the day. Today is a day at leisure, relax,
stroll through town or take an optional tour.
Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner at Einar Ben, located in an 18th century house by the main
square in the heart of Reykjavik. Einar Ben was one of Iceland’s most loved poets and the cuisine is a combination
of the poetry and foresight of the man the restaurant is named after. All the basic raw material is Icelandic, from
the local waters to the mountains where the lambs graze with the reindeers in the summer.
Day 3 - Friday: The Golden Circle
After breakfast visit the marvelous sights on the Golden Circle route. Walk around the
world-famous Geyser area, a geothermal field where hot springs are in abundance, geysers explode and pools of mud
bubble. One of the many highlights of our tour is the Gullfoss waterfall, the queen of Iceland's waterfalls.
Finally, but no less spectacular is a visit to Thingvellir National Park, the original site of the oldest existing
parliament in the world. The Great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, a rift that is slowly pulling Iceland apart
along tectonic plates.
After the tour you can either have free time in Reykjavik or opt for the optional river rafting trip.
2:00pm - Optional River Rafting ($99)
A 2 hour rafting trip down the Hvita River, a beautiful and fun river
that has a perfectly balanced mix of serene canyons and adrenaline pumping waves and rapids. On the way, we
will pass through the magnificent Bruarhold canyon and in this stunning setting participants have the option
of jumping from the cliff into the rivers. Who can resist going glacier river swimming in Iceland?
There will be time for the hot tub or sauna after the trip before we start the 1 hour drive back to
Reykjavik.
Day 4 - Saturday: Þjórsárdalur & Landmannalaugar
After a hardy breakfast we are greeted by our guide who introduces us to the powerful vehicles we will be
riding today: a modified Land Rover Defender on heavy-duty 44” tires. With little time to waste, we climb into our
jeeps and head out to explore this land of extreme nature. Our 4X4 super-jeep tour takes us to the stunning
Landmannalaugar geothermal area in the Icelandic interior and the imposing Mt. Hekla - one of Iceland's most
prominent and active volcanoes. It’s simply magical!
We start in Þjórsárdalur valley, a prosperous farming region completely laid to waste by the devastating 1104
eruption from Mt. Hekla. Then we visit the Hjálparfoss waterfall. After time for lunch, we drive to the
Landmannalaugar area, where we can bathe in completely natural hot pools in beautiful surroundings before driving
back to Reykjavik via the Dómadalur valley.
Day 5 - Sunday: South Coast & Glacier Hike
South Iceland is a lowland region of lush farmland, striking waterfalls, sandy
coastline, glaciers, active volcanoes (Eyjafjallajokull among others) and quaint towns and villages. It is
also an area of historical significance. Here the famous Icelandic Saga of Njáll occurred. This tour is ideal
for nature lovers of all kinds. Visitors have an opportunity to stand behind a plummeting waterfall, gaze at
natural rock formations and feel the amazing power of a glacier.
Our adventure begins with a drive along the south coast highway to an icy glacial tongue known as Sólheimajökull.
It’s another-worldly scene, rugged and raw; a tangled, frozen wasteland. Armed with an ice axe and crampons, we
advance on foot up the glacier’s icy slope and edge past deep crevasses into increasingly spectacular
surroundings.
Tonight enjoy our farewell dinner at the Fish Company. A 4 course menu will be served that tantalizes the taste
buds with only the best of what both the land and sea has to offer and treated with a daring choice of herbs
and spices from all corners of the world.
Day 6 - Monday - Depart Iceland
After breakfast it is time to say "Bae" to Iceland as we depart for the airport and our
flights home. If your flight is later in the day you have the option ($35 extra) to stop at
the Blue Lagoon a Geothermal Spa on the
way to the airport.
The Blue Lagoon has two steam baths and a cozy sauna. There's a waterfall in the lagoon that provides an energizing
massage for shoulders and neck. Enjoy a mud bath with the free Silica mud. You can even have lunch in your bathrobe
before departing for the airport.
