Crete,
Greece Myths and legends abound on Crete - it is the birthplace of Zeus and

unique culture. Years of occupation by the Romans, Arabs, Venetians, Turks
and later by the Germans have left their mark on the island.
A paradise for walkers and lovers of nature, Crete abounds with flowers in the
Spring. It is on the migratory path of many rare birds, and the seas that surround
Crete are full of marine life for those interested in diving and snorkelling.
For lovers of culture there are museums and world famous archaelogical sites,
including the palace of King Minos at Knossos, and the ancient ruins at Phaestos.
There are tiny churches tucked away with beautiful frescoes, Roman baths, mosaics
and tombs, hidden caves and beaches and ancient olive trees. Crete has it
all.

The Hotel's weekly Program of
Entertainment
The Famous Fish
Day Thursday is a special day, guests are taken to a
wonderful beach on the west of the island with turquouise waters and thick
long sandy beaches. Swim, sunbathe or just enjoy a drink watching the
stunning blue of the crystal clear waters. A visit to a nearby archaeological
site is optional.
At lunch time set off south to a hidden beach taverna where
the local family waits to meet you. Their son, Nikos free dives with a
spear-gun and the catch of the day is sold at their taverna mainly to locals.
After meeting the family a visit into the Kitchen is a must, where we see the
food being prepared for us. Everything is produced locally apart from the
beer. Green beans and greens from the garden, sea weeds from the rocky
shores, fresh local fish, tomatoes and cucumbers from their greenhouse. Do
not expect to leave early. The goodbye is long. Most of the time guests have
to be dragged out of the place with the promise to come again.
History talk lasts about 45 minutes every second Wednesday
evening
Find out more about the fascinating history of Crete's 5000 years from Minoan
period to Helinistic times, then Roman period, Byzantine era up to modern times.
Over the centuries Crete has been invaded by everyone mainly because of its
strategic position in the then known world for the control of the eastern
Mediterranean and the trade between 3 continents. This obviously had a tremendous
impact on the islands traditions, way of life and character of the
people.
Walk through the Venetian old town of Chania on
Thursday.
Lunch at Petridis taverna on the water front. Nikos, the owner has been a
restaurateur for 65 years and refuses to change his laid back life style.
Barbecue and Greek night with Live Greek music and professional dancers every
Friday evening.
Get to see the traditional costumes and dances of Crete and mainland Greece. Join
your hostess and the dancers for a night with a difference.
Cooking demonstration on Friday
afternoon.
Meet in the kitchen and see, smell and taste what will be served for your dinner.
Learn how to make stuffed tomatoes, tzatziki and Cretan small cheese pies. Get the
recipes and impress your friends at home! Take home a bottle of the family olive
oil to remind you of us every time you sprinkle it on your salad.
Group photo session on Friday night. Put on a big smile and the group
photo is ready to remind us all of another excellent week.
A visit to our vegetable
garden (organic in transition). See for yourself where the
vegetables, eggs and chicken you enjoy come from.
Wine
tasting. Wine, nibbles, chat and be merry. Sip on the best Cretan
and Greek wines (payable locally).
Fishing expeditions - enjoy the scenery and hopefully catch
dinner
Birdwatching
. Borrow the
telescope and come with us to watch some of Crete's wild birds, many of them
